## About

California, on the eve of World War I. In a seemingly peaceful town, Cal, a troubled and rebellious young man, desperately seeks the love of his father, who favors his older brother. As buried secrets emerge and family tensions deepen, love and jealousy threaten to tear them apart. Elia Kazan’s masterful adaptation of John Steinbeck’s novel, recently reimagined for television by the director’s granddaughter, transforms the biblical tale of Cain and Abel into a stirring drama of longing, guilt, and belonging. At its heart is James Dean’s electrifying first leading performance, a mesmerizing portrait of vulnerability, rage, and aching desire. With its daring direction, breathtaking cinematography, and undiminished emotional power, East of Eden remains a triumph of American cinema.
