Ashes and Diamonds

In a small Polish town, World War II has ended, but its scars remain deeply etched in the nation's soul. Young Maciek, a resistance fighter, is ordered to assassinate a local Communist official. A budding romance with a barmaid, however, leads him to question his mission and the ideals behind it. The final chapter of Andrzej Wajda's War Trilogy is a masterpiece of contrasts—light and darkness, fire and water, innocence and guilt. Filled with unforgettable imagery and featuring an iconic performance by Zbigniew Cybulski, the "Polish James Dean," it remains one of the great achievements of Polish cinema.
