In 1938, Philippine President Manuel Quezon, together with future U.S. President Dwight Eisenhower and other key figures, launched an effort to rescue thousands of Jewish refugees from ghettos in Germany and Austria and bring them to safety in the Philippines. What begins as a seemingly feasible initiative soon becomes a daunting challenge, as Quezon struggles to secure U.S. support while facing opposition at home and abroad, all while battling tuberculosis. The film weaves together complex political negotiations, moving personal moments, and moral dilemmas, as Quezon ultimately asks himself, “Could I have done more to save human lives?” Despite the obstacles, he succeeds in saving 1,200 Jews, leaving a lasting legacy as a symbol of moral leadership and determination.
