Bach Jumps to Cuba – Hot Jazz, The International Series
Chuchito Valdés & Costel Nitescu & Omar Acosta / Cuba — France — Venezuela
Following their resounding success at the Latin America Festival and by popular demand, the show of these three virtuosos is back!
They will celebrate their shared love for jazz, Latin and South American rhythms, Bach, and Buena Vista folklore, alongside captivating Latin jazz.
What happens when a virtuoso Cuban musician meets one of the pillars of classical music?
In the show "Bach Jumps to Cuba, " Cuban pianist Chuchito Valdés brings together his Afro-Cuban world with the works of Johann Sebastian Bach (and more) — creating a journey where the boundaries between classical and Latin music are erased.
Alongside him stands Omar Acosta, an award-winning Venezuelan flutist and composer, a two-time Latin Grammy nominee, creator of the iconic piece Solo de Pajarillo, and an international Yamaha artist. Recognized as one of the most prominent Venezuelan flutists of his generation, he also served as flutist and musical director for the National Ballet of Spain. Together, they weave a rich tapestry where Bach motifs breathe new life, fiery Cuban rhythms blend with ancient elegance, and improvisation becomes a tool for connecting worlds.
Costel Nitescu possesses a unique musical language that captivates the world; his technique is flawless, and his virtuosity is phenomenal. If Brazil has four stars on its national football team’s jersey, Romania deserves at least the same number of stars for its extraordinary violinists. Costel Nitescu is part of the dream team of Romanian jazz violin. By age 16, he was already the first violin in the National Radio Orchestra of Bucharest, and his classical training gave him the remarkable ability to blend into the various musical styles of Central Europe. In the early 2000s, he moved to Paris, where his talent as an improviser quickly placed him at the pinnacle of gypsy jazz.
Chuchito Valdés is the third generation of the legendary Valdés dynasty, a Latin Grammy nominee, former leader of Irakere, and a piano master who fuses Afro-Cuban jazz, Caribbean sounds, and swing into an electrifying performance. He sets the stage ablaze with irresistible swing, groove, and energy.
This is an evening where Bach embarks on a tropical journey — full of humor, freedom, and creativity — like you have never heard before!
