A new play by Yossi Yona
“Loving Daisy” is a gripping and moving theatrical drama that takes viewers on a journey between 1940s Iraq and 1950s Israel – a time of political turmoil, great dreams, and raging passions.
At the center of the play is a group of young people imbued with faith, members of an underground cell that operates out of a strong belief in the righteousness of their path and the ability to change the world. They dream of freedom and of a bright future where everyone enjoys economic wellbeing.
But then Daisy arrives – a smart, charismatic, lively, captivating, and heartbreaking young woman. She quickly becomes the center of attention of all the cell members.
With a fair amount of humor, subtle irony, and musical fragments echoing the epoch in which the play’s plot unfolds, the play offers a refreshing, human, and heartbreaking look at existential dilemmas that have accompanied us since time immemorial: the tension between the dictates of the heart and loyalty to an idea, and the necessity of choosing between the survival instinct and a comradery forged from long-standing acquaintances and shared values.
