Open My Lips: Timely Tehillim

The Book of Psalms contains 150 psalms — voices of prayer and song written thousands of years ago here in Jerusalem, that have accompanied people ever since. Profoundly ancient, they continue to be whispered in the present; rooted in a specific place, they reach across generations to the entire world. Psalms is unique in the Bible because it represents not revelation descending toward humanity, but rather humanity turning upward toward God — direct, personal, unfiltered human speech. It contains no list of laws, no historical chronicle, no narrative, but something else entirely. Psalms is a living, exposed language that emerges whenever the lips part and the heart seeks words. Open My Lips: Timely Tehilim is an exhibition that asks us to listen to that threshold moment when a person is compelled to open their lips, lift their voice, and turn toward the transcendent through the timeless poetry of Psalms. Here, prayer is not theology but breath; not doctrine but emotional pulse. The space also gathers Psalms books carried by soldiers during the recent war and leaves a dedicated place for the visitor’s own prayers and requests.
