Vision – Short Films

Short film strand · 7 films · 83 min

Cinema as a living, ever-changing material. Between documentary and fiction, between image and idea, between tradition and invention — spaces in which to explore what cinema can be, and what it can serve.

Programme:

Worries — Dor Zisso (Israel, 2025, 10 min)
Every-day troubles, petty insecurties, daily routines all take place in a tranquil suburb where neighbors exist side-by-side and no one intereacts in any meaningful way. All the while, disaster is looming.

A Film by Roland Wehap — Roland Wehap (Austria, 2025, 29 min)
The film "A Film by Roland Wehap" is a work by the filmmaker of the same name, Roland Wehap, who, as a "one-man show filmmaker, " challenges the concept itself by embarking on an extraordinary experiment: Is it possible to produce a short film with almost no budget entirely on your own?

In this ultimate "one-man show, " fiction and autobiographical elements merge into a biting satire about an uncompromising filmmaker. Driven by his relentless quest for fame, recognition, and the big breakthrough, he navigates the typical stages of a film career riddled with setbacks.

For a brief moment, however, he basks in the glamour of the world stage: he creates a film about his sleeping cat, establishes his own film festival after being rejected by all the others, and even gains international attention. But it quickly becomes evident that fame and honor don’t always translate into financial success.

In the end, one truth remains: a filmmaker has to make films — whatever the cost.

Luma — Rachel Albert (Israel, 2025, 5 min)
In a dim church, a woman’s prayer is disturbed by a mysterious man. Their encounter, marked by uncertainty, blurs lines between light and shadow, raising questions about morality, impurity, and grace.

Equal — Tom Bessoir (United States, 2025, 4 min)
EQUAL is a cinematic exploration of Richard Serra’s sculpture of the same name on display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

The sculpture consists of eight forged-steel blocks stacked in pairs. Each rectangular block measures 5 feet by 5 and 1/2 feet by 6 feet and weighs 40 tons. The blocks are rotated and stacked so that the top and bottom blocks align differently. Yet the four stacks are each 11 feet tall.

This simple form makes me think about space, mass, weight, and time. Like the sculpture, my film seeks to both overwhelm the viewer and invite contemplation.

THIS FILM SHOULD BE PLAYED LOUD IN A DARK ROOM

A Friend of Ours — François Rabès, Félicie Dutertre (France, 2025, 9 min)
If you want to make God laugh, tell him about your plans.

Vital Signs — Gregory Yarin (Israel, 2025, 25 min)
Psychological drama, comedy. After an argument with his wife over old toothbrushes, the new immigrant Aron heads into the city to buy oranges. As he navigates the streets, unable to communicate in the language of his new surroundings, Aron becomes entangled in a series of events. What begins as a simple search for oranges evolves into a pursuit of his own identity.

Chiko the Rooster — Nadav Zlotkin (Israel, 2022, 1 min)
Chiko just wanted to make the kids happy with a cock-a-doodle-doo and an omelet, but learns the hard way what happens when you argue with a cop.
