Based on Davidson’s life, I Swear follows him across the decades as he learns to live with Tourette’s—and with the reactions of those around him. A story like this could easily become worthy or didactic, but Kirk Jones’s warm direction and an exceptional cast—including Peter Mullan, Maxine Peake and, above all, BAFTA-winner Robert Aramayo—give the film humor, tenderness and emotional force. The result raises a smile even as it touches the heart.
