Lucy is a mysterious girl with stark white hair, extraordinary abilities, and no memory of her past. She sees people, objects, and visions invisible to everyone else. During World War I, her fiercely protective parents keep her hidden in their home in a British fishing village, isolated from the community and forbidden from attending school. Everything changes when Lucy meets Milly, an imaginary girl her age who, unlike her other visions, refuses to disappear. Spirited and fearless, Milly draws Lucy into a series of adventures beyond the boundaries imposed by her parents. Together, the two embark on a suspenseful, detective-like journey that gradually uncovers the mystery of Lucy’s enigmatic past.
A breathtaking illustrative style captures both the pastoral beauty of village life and the tensions of a society shaped by war. Balancing the wonder of childhood with an atmosphere of uncertainty and fear, the film becomes a moving, timeless allegory about the inner struggle to find one’s place in a world in crisis.
