The Song of Aida

Twenty years ago, filmmaker Giovanni Princigalli met Aida, a Romanian Roma teenager living on the outskirts of Bari and dreaming of becoming a singer and a model. Today, she is a wife and mother, still living in the same settlement but determined to change her life. Moving between past and present, The Song of Aida weaves together two decades of footage, music and poetic animation in a colorful, compassionate portrait of Aida and her family, and her struggle for independence in a world shaped by tradition and patriarchal expectations.
